007 First Light launches today, finally giving James Bond a proper new video game after years of awkward franchise silence and dusty memories of 007 Legends. IO Interactive is pitching this as a reimagined origin story, following a younger Bond before he fully earns the number.
That is a smart angle because it gives the Hitman studio room to build a Bond who is not yet the finished tuxedo hurricane: reckless, talented, dangerous and still learning where the line is between spycraft and international property damage. The game arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC today, with the Switch 2 version planned for summer.
For players, the big question is whether IO can blend cinematic Bond spectacle with the studio’s best strengths: infiltration, improvisation, gadgets and stylish problem-solving. If it works, Bond may finally have his gaming comeback.
