Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced exists because Edward Kenway is one of Ubisoft’s crown jewels

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is not happening by accident. Ubisoft’s latest comments make it clear that Black Flag was chosen because Edward Kenway still carries unusual weight inside the franchise.

That makes sense. Black Flag has always been the Assassin’s Creed game that even people tired of Assassin’s Creed still talk about warmly: piracy, naval combat, shanties, treasure hunting, a messy hero and a Caribbean map that felt built for wandering. Ubisoft Singapore also has a natural technical reason to be involved, given its history with water technology, naval systems and Skull and Bones.

The remake is therefore not just about making an old game prettier. It is about rebuilding one of Ubisoft’s most durable fantasies around a character and setting that still work. The risk is obvious: modern Ubisoft systems can easily smother a cleaner older design. But if Resynced focuses on Edward, ships, islands, piracy and a cleaner adventure flow, this could be exactly the kind of remake the series needs.
