Cassette Beasts 2002 announced for modern platforms

Cassette Beasts 2002 has been announced, giving one of the better modern creature-collecting RPGs a full sequel. Raw Fury and Bytten Studio are bringing the game to PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 and PC, and that platform spread suggests the original’s cult success has grown into something bigger.

Cassette Beasts worked because it did not simply copy Pokémon with a different hat. It had its own identity: transforming through cassette recordings, fusion mechanics, strange island mystery and a soundtrack that made the whole thing feel warmer and weirder. A sequel set around 2002 gives the team room to play with early-2000s tech, music culture and monster-tape nostalgia.

The key will be evolution. Fans want more creatures and systems, but they also want the charming oddness intact. If Bytten keeps that personality, this could be a very welcome follow-up.
