Coral Island Coming to Switch 2 With Kids Grow Up

Stairway Games has confirmed that Coral Island will finally make its Nintendo debut this winter, although the destination is Switch 2 rather than the original Switch. The cosy farming and life simulation will arrive alongside version 1.4, appropriately titled Kids Grow Up, which substantially expands family life after marriage. Children will progress through four stages—baby, toddler, school-age and teenager—and develop their own personalities, hobbies and relationships. The update also includes new milestones and family scenes, including one inspired by Tedak Siten, a Javanese tradition celebrating a child's first steps onto the ground.

Coral Island already combines farming, relationships, conservation and underwater exploration around its tropical setting, and the Switch 2 release supports solo play alongside multiplayer for up to four people with cross-platform functionality on supported systems. There is bittersweet news for original Kickstarter supporters. Stairway says technical and performance limitations mean the promised original Switch version will not happen, but backers who selected Switch will be offered a Switch 2 key at no additional charge.

It has been a long road: Coral Island entered PC Early Access in 2022 and reached its full PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series release in 2023. A portable Nintendo version always felt like an obvious fit for a game involving crops, romance, diving and the comforting illusion that running a farm is relaxing. Switch 2 owners will finally get that opportunity—along with virtual children who apparently insist on growing up.
