Destiny 2 final live-service content update launches June 9

Destiny 2 final live-service content update launches June 9 is part of Gameforce Asia's May 22 news briefing, tracking the releases, platform moves and live-service updates most likely to affect what players watch next.

Destiny 2 is approaching the end of an era. Bungie's final major live-service content update for the shooter will launch on June 9, marking the point where the game stops being the endlessly fed machine it has been for years. That does not mean Destiny 2 is shutting down. Players will still be able to play, but the structure around major content updates, seasonal rhythm and live-service escalation is changing dramatically.

For long-time Guardians, this is bittersweet. Destiny 2 has survived rough launches, expansions, reinventions, vaulting, comeback moments and community blowups, yet it remained one of the defining shared-world shooters of the last decade. The June update is less about one patch and more about closing a chapter. The big unknown is what Bungie does next with Destiny as a universe, especially with Marathon now carrying much of the studio's future pressure.
