Square Enix schedules Dragon Quest 40th anniversary team update

Square Enix is preparing a short but potentially very important Dragon Quest broadcast for May 27. The “Update from the Dragon Quest Team” stream will run for around ten minutes, which is either just enough time to say almost nothing or exactly enough time to set the fandom on fire.

Square Enix has not shared specific details, but the timing around Dragon Quest’s 40th anniversary makes it difficult not to wonder about future projects. Fans will immediately think of Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, because that project has been quiet for long enough that people are starting to examine silence like ancient ruins.

There could also be updates tied to remakes, ports, anniversary content or franchise-wide plans. Dragon Quest is still one of Japan’s most important RPG institutions, so even a short stream is worth watching. Ten minutes can be dangerous when the slime is smiling at you.
