Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes pass four million shipments and digital sales

Dragon Quest’s HD-2D revival is clearly working. Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake have surpassed four million combined shipments and digital sales.
That is a strong milestone for a remake strategy built on one very specific promise: make classic RPGs look modern without sanding away the old-school soul. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake already passed two million on its own after launch, and the combined figure shows there is still serious demand for these foundational entries when they are presented properly.
This also lands neatly around the franchise’s 40th anniversary update, so Square Enix gets to remind everyone that Dragon Quest is not just history. It is still a commercial force. The obvious question now is how aggressively Square Enix applies HD-2D to the wider back catalog.
