EA FC 26 is getting a World Cup-style game mode on June 4, just in time for football fever to start bullying everyone’s calendar. The update is called The World’s Game and adds an international tournament mode with 48 national teams and new authentic stadiums.
The one awkward caveat is licensing: EA no longer has the official FIFA tournament license, so this is not a fully official World Cup mode in name. But functionally, for many players, it will scratch the same itch: pick a nation, build a run, argue about ratings and blame the controller after a suspicious 90th-minute goal.
The mode also arrives while EA Sports FC 26 remains part of PlayStation Plus Monthly Games availability through June 16, which gives the update extra visibility. For EA, the timing is perfect. For everyone else, prepare for online matches full of national pride and deeply questionable defending.
