EA Sports FC 26’s World Cup-style mode now has an official release date, giving football fans a timely excuse to re-enter the national-team argument factory. The update is part of EA’s broader push around international football without the old FIFA license, which means it needs to scratch the same tournament itch while operating under different branding.
That is a delicate line. Players want the fantasy: pick a country, chase glory, get upset by a smaller nation, blame the controller and immediately start another run.
EA has already shown that it can keep FC relevant through seasonal and event-driven updates, but this one carries extra pressure because real-world football attention is rising around the summer calendar. If the mode feels substantial rather than cosmetic, it could give FC 26 a very useful second wind.
