Xbox leadership says the game is coming along well and that it will be shown at the right time, when the team has its best material ready. That is not a trailer, release window or gameplay breakdown, but for Elder Scrolls fans, even a faint candle in the cave counts as news.

The patience problem is real. Skyrim became a cultural monument, then proceeded to be re-released on enough devices to achieve immortality. The next full Elder Scrolls has impossible expectations: scale, freedom, mod support, role-playing depth and a world players can live in for years.

Xbox is wise not to force a premature reveal. But the hunger is only getting louder.
