EXSTETRA remaster gets PC launch plans as console versions enter development

EXSTETRA is getting a second chance, and this time players outside Japan will actually be invited. FuRyu has announced that the remastered version of its fantasy RPG is heading worldwide to PC via Steam, with PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Switch versions also in development.

The original EXSTETRA launched for PS Vita and 3DS in Japan back in 2013, which means this remaster is less a simple nostalgia release and more a proper rescue job for a niche RPG many players never had realistic access to.

The premise is gloriously 2010s JRPG: Tokyo fused with another world, a chosen savior called a Prisma, companions who become Prisma Knights and a battle system where kisses are literally part of sharing power. That may sound ridiculous, but ridiculous is often where mid-budget Japanese RPGs are at their most memorable. If the remaster handles localization, pacing and quality-of-life well, EXSTETRA could find a new audience that missed the handheld original entirely.
