Fallout 76 Infestations update turns Appalachia into a takeover zone

Fallout 76 is getting a chunky Infestations update on June 2, and Bethesda is framing it as an important shift for Appalachia. The update introduces periodic high-tier enemy takeovers across core locations, forcing players to team up and clear out dangerous infestations rather than simply running the same familiar routes forever.

That is a smart direction because long-running live games need the world to feel like it can still push back. Fallout 76 has already survived one of the roughest launches in modern RPG memory, and its continued life depends on updates that add friction, reward and social reasons to return.

Infestations sounds like the kind of system that can turn known locations into fresh problems. If the rewards and difficulty tuning land properly, Appalachia may feel a little less settled and a lot more hostile again.
