FIFA reveals long-term digital football strategy

FIFA has revealed its new digital football strategy, and the message is clear: the post-EA divorce era is not about replacing one giant football game with one new giant football game. Instead, FIFA wants a broader ecosystem across multiple partners, platforms and genres. The current lineup includes Football Manager 26, eFootball, FIFA Rivals, a Netflix Games title called FIFA World Cup, FIFA Heroes, Rocket League and FIFA Super Soccer on Roblox.
That is a very different playbook from the old one-game-to-rule-them-all model. It also makes sense. EA Sports FC owns the traditional simulation space for now, so FIFA is trying to build around it: mobile, esports, arcade, Roblox, Netflix and official tournament hooks.
Whether this becomes a meaningful ecosystem or a folder of licensed experiments depends on execution. But the strategy is at least more interesting than simply chasing EA with a worse clone.
