Halo: Campaign Evolved launches July 28 with new prequel missions

Halo: Campaign Evolved is real, dated and surprisingly broad. The remake launches July 28, 2026, with up to five days of early access from July 23, and it is coming to Xbox, PC, Steam and PlayStation 5 while also launching through Game Pass. That alone makes it one of the biggest Halo announcements in years.

The new trailer showed Operation: METEORITE, a three-mission prequel arc starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson on a behind-enemy-lines UNSC mission. The remake is clearly not just a cleaner texture pass.

Xbox is trying to turn the original Halo campaign into a modern event release while still preserving the emotional muscle memory of Combat Evolved. The PS5 release will make some old console-war ghosts scream, but strategically it gives Halo a much bigger audience. The ring is back, and this time the guest list is bigger.
