Kyoto Xanadu reveals mysterious new character Rurui

Kyoto Xanadu has a new character trailer, this time focused on Rurui, a mysterious girl Rei encounters in the labyrinth. Falcom is clearly doing what Falcom does best: slowly feeding character details to players until everyone has already formed opinions months before launch.

Rurui is described as strange, elusive and difficult to read, which in anime action RPG language usually means she will either be incredibly important, deeply tragic, secretly ancient or all three while eating snacks. Kyoto Xanadu is due in Japan on July 16 for Switch 2 and Switch, with a western release also planned.

As the follow-up to Tokyo Xanadu, it has a useful hook: urban fantasy action, labyrinth crawling and school-life-style character drama moved into Kyoto. The new trailer is not a massive reveal, but it helps build the cast personality one puzzle piece at a time.
