Marathon Season 2 cinematic teases Night Marsh horrors
Marathon is already leaning harder into the horror side of extraction shooting. Bungie has released a cinematic trailer for Season 2: NIGHTFALL, showing Night Marsh, a darker version of Dire Marsh that looks exactly like the kind of place where players will insist they are fine right before screaming into voice chat.
The trailer focuses on the Sentinel shell and a team entering the area, with flashbacks suggesting previous runners met very unpleasant ends. Season 2 begins June 2 and is expected to introduce new systems, including the Cradle, which should give players more control over Runner stats.
Bungie is also promising experimental PvE modes, more Vault Space and other updates. That is important because Marathon needs to prove it can evolve quickly. After a rougher-than-ideal first impression, NIGHTFALL needs to show that Bungie still understands atmosphere, danger and systems-driven multiplayer obsession.
