Marvel’s Wolverine leans into violence but lets players turn gore down

By GFA Staff · June 4, 2026

Marvel’s Wolverine is clearly not trying to be another clean superhero postcard. Insomniac has described the game as the ultimate Wolverine fantasy, and that means violence is part of the character, not a decorative extra.

At the same time, the studio is giving players options to tone down the gore, which is a smart move. Wolverine should feel brutal, heavy and dangerous, but not every player wants dismemberment and blood turned up to maximum just to enjoy the story.

The most interesting part is that Insomniac seems aware of the balance. Logan is not Spider-Man with claws. He is a loner, a fighter and a character whose physicality matters. If the combat lands, the gore toggle will simply be a comfort option rather than a compromise. For PlayStation, this is one of the biggest tests of 2026: can Insomniac make a superhero game that feels mean without becoming shallow?
