McDonald’s Japan launches retro Mega Man crossover campaign

McDonald’s Japan has launched a Mega Man crossover campaign, because apparently iced coffee tastes better when served with 8-bit boss-fight energy. The promotion spotlights premium roast iced coffee and features a commercial built around a retro-styled Rockman sequence, including a version of Team Nekokan’s famous Can’t Beat Air Man.

The campaign also includes mobile wallpapers tied to My McDonald’s rewards points, with some assets referencing the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override. It is a small brand campaign, but it works because Mega Man remains one of those game series with an instantly readable visual language: blue armor, chunky sprites, Dr. Wily energy and music that lives rent-free in people’s brains.

The timing is useful for Capcom too, with Mega Man: Dual Override due in 2027 and the Star Force Legacy Collection already released earlier this year. This is not a game announcement, but it is a reminder that Mega Man still has cultural pull when Capcom actually lets him out of the capsule.
