Media Molecule’s next game reportedly includes open-world content

Media Molecule’s next project may be much bigger than people expected. A senior environment designer’s portfolio reportedly mentions “various open-world content” for an unannounced new IP at the Dreams studio.

That does not automatically mean Media Molecule is building a giant AAA open-world checklist machine, and frankly that would be the least Media Molecule way to interpret the phrase. But it does suggest the team may be working with larger spaces, exploration systems or open-ended environments after years of being associated with creation tools, handcrafted whimsy and wonderfully strange user-generated chaos.

That is interesting because Media Molecule has always had a unique design voice, but Dreams struggled to become the long-term platform Sony probably wanted. A new IP with open-world elements could be a reset: less toolkit, more directed game, but hopefully still full of personality. For now, it is portfolio evidence, not an announcement, so keep one eyebrow raised.
