Modern Warfare 4 keeps Black Ops 7’s skill-based matchmaking lessons

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is apparently not throwing Black Ops 7’s matchmaking homework into the bin. Infinity Ward has said it is not reverting to older pre-Black Ops 7 matchmaking systems, and that it is still analyzing player data before sharing more details.

For Call of Duty fans, this matters because matchmaking has become one of the series’ loudest long-term arguments. Players want fair matches, but they also do not want every casual lobby to feel like a tax audit with assault rifles.

Modern Warfare 4 already has several sensible choices going for it: a single-player-only campaign, new multiplayer systems like Kill Block and a full launch across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Switch 2. If Infinity Ward can make matchmaking feel competitive without turning every session into a sweat factory, MW4 could start repairing some trust.
