Muramasa: Revenant Blades revives Vanillaware’s swordplay in early 2027

By GFA Staff · June 10, 2026

Muramasa: Revenant Blades has been announced, bringing Vanillaware’s glorious 2D swordplay style back in early 2027. The game features six protagonists, swift combat, English voice acting, new modes, revamped localization, expanded language support and 4K art.

That is a strong revival because Muramasa has always had one of the most distinctive looks in action RPG history: painterly, theatrical, full of food, blades, spirits and backgrounds that make players stop fighting just to stare. The new version coming to PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC gives it the platform reach it deserves.

The danger is that fans will expect both preservation and modernization. Vanillaware’s art can do a lot, but the combat and pacing need to feel sharp in 2027. If they do, Revenant Blades could be a beautiful return.
