Nintendo reportedly targets 20 million Switch 2 units by March 2027

Nintendo may be planning more Switch 2 hardware than its official forecast suggests. A report relayed by GIGAZINE says Nintendo has asked partners and suppliers to assemble roughly 20 million Switch 2 consoles by March 2027, about 20 percent higher than the 16.5 million figure in its fiscal-year sales forecast.

That does not mean Nintendo will automatically sell every unit, and production plans can shift depending on demand, but it does suggest the company may be more confident internally than its public forecast implies. The timing is also interesting because Switch 2 price increases are creating a little consumer friction.

Nintendo’s answer appears to be software: keep the lineup strong enough that buyers swallow the higher hardware cost and move on. That is easier said than done, but Nintendo has pulled this trick before. If major releases keep landing, 20 million may be ambitious but not ridiculous.
