Paramount Games Studio has officially entered the room, and it is already talking about the franchises that could shape its future. Following the reveal of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, Paramount pointed to several major brands as potential pillars for future games. That is interesting because Paramount owns a lot of pop-culture ammunition through CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon and more, but games are not easy brand extensions.
The industry is full of expensive proof that recognizable IP alone does not guarantee a good game. The opportunity is obvious though. TMNT, Avatar, SpongeBob, Star Trek and other Paramount-linked properties all have game potential if matched with the right studios and budgets.
The test now is whether Paramount Games becomes a serious publishing force or just another corporate IP machine chasing the adaptation boom.
