PlayStation Plus Adds October Games Today With Different Release Schedules Across Regions
Sony is refreshing the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogues today, October 20, introducing another selection of games for subscribers while experimenting with different regional release schedules. The October update includes nine additions overall, although not every market receives the complete selection simultaneously. Players in most territories gain access to the broader catalogue today, while subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom and Japan receive a smaller initial selection.
Five titles are available in those three markets immediately: Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West, Mycopunk, Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition. Additional games are scheduled to arrive on October 27. The staggered arrangement is unusual because subscription services traditionally emphasise simultaneous availability across supported regions. Sony has not presented the experiment as a permanent change, but the decision could provide useful information about player engagement and how different release schedules influence subscriptions.
The catalogue additions themselves cover a broad range of experiences. Mafia: The Old Country offers cinematic crime storytelling, Horizon Forbidden West delivers an enormous science-fiction adventure, and Mycopunk provides cooperative shooting action. Dino Crisis 2 adds another classic Capcom title for retro enthusiasts, while RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition appeals to players who prefer building elaborate amusement parks. The inclusion of Mycopunk is particularly notable because it coincides with the game's full release on PlayStation 5. Day-one catalogue additions can provide substantial exposure for independent developers, although their commercial impact depends on the terms of the agreements involved. For subscribers, the most important consideration is understanding which games are actually available in their region. Apparently even downloading games through a subscription service now requires a certain amount of geographical awareness.
