PlayStation to remove over 1,000 shovelware games from store

PlayStation is preparing to remove more than 1,000 shovelware games from its store, and honestly, some storefronts could use a pressure washer. The move follows PlayStation acquiring a major shovelware publisher, with mass delistings planned as part of cleaning up the catalog. That matters because digital storefront quality has become a real problem.

When low-effort trophy spam, asset flips and barely functional releases flood a store, discovery gets worse for everyone: players, legitimate indies and platform holders. The awkward part is where the line gets drawn. One person’s shovelware is another person’s extremely cheap curiosity, but there is a clear difference between small sincere games and cynical spam.

If PlayStation handles the cleanup carefully, it could make the store feel healthier. If it gets messy, expect arguments about curation, preservation and who gets to decide what counts as junk.
