Pokémon Champions Adds Z Mega Evolutions, Rillaboom, and Baxcalibur

The Pokémon Company has deployed a major competitive content update for Pokémon Champions today, September 9, 2026, officially introducing the long-anticipated Z Mega Evolution mechanic into ranked ladder play. The update dramatically alters battle dynamics by providing selected Pokémon with enhanced secondary typing and modified battle traits.

Headlining the initial Z Mega roster are Mega Lucario Z (Fighting/Electric), Mega Garchomp Z (Dragon/Fire), and Mega Absol Z (Dark/Fairy), each equipped with custom cinematic animations and unique passive combat triggers. In addition, fan-favorite powerhouses Rillaboom and Baxcalibur join the competitive character pool with dedicated move loadouts.

The update also rebalances several existing held items and expands the stadium spectator interface for broadcast tournaments ahead of the 2027 competitive circuit. Competitive players are already exploring new synergy compositions to counter the aggressive burst potential of Z Mega forms.
