Pokémon Champions battle pass may be weak, and that might be the point

Pokémon Champions’ Battle Pass is getting attention for an unusual reason: it may not be worth buying, and that might actually be good. Nintendo Everything argues that the Premium Battle Pass is not especially compelling, but that weakness helps the game avoid the usual free-to-play trap where players feel constantly squeezed.
That is important because Pokémon Champions is a dedicated competitive battle simulator, and competitive games become toxic very quickly if players believe spending money gives too much advantage. The game’s currency cannot be bought directly with real money, and monetization is mostly limited to membership and Battle Pass options.
That does not make everything perfect, but it does lower the temperature. In a market full of aggressive live-service economies, a Battle Pass that is easy to skip may be a feature, not a flaw.
