Resident Evil producer says Japan could work for a future entry

Resident Evil may eventually come home to Japan, at least if Capcom decides the timing is right. A producer connected to Resident Evil Requiem has suggested that the franchise could go to Japan in the future, which is a fascinating idea because the series has always been Japanese-made but rarely Japanese-set in its mainline identity.
It also makes sense in the current market. Japanese settings have become extremely popular again across action games, horror and historical adventures, and Resident Evil could use that backdrop in a very different way from samurai tourism or open-world sightseeing.
Imagine narrow apartment corridors, rural legends, biotech horror under neon cities, isolated mountain towns or corporate infection buried under polite architecture. The danger is obvious too: Resident Evil cannot simply use Japan as wallpaper. If Capcom ever does it, the setting needs to shape the horror rather than just decorate it.
