River City Saga: Journey to the West shows new trailer before June launch

River City Saga: Journey to the West has a new trailer, and yes, the idea remains wonderfully ridiculous: the River City crew retelling Journey to the West through brawling, roguelike progression and Kunio-style comedy action. 99.

The setup gives the classic Chinese tale a very arcade-beat-’em-up twist, with Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing and Tang Sanzang reimagined through River City’s punch-first personality. That is exactly the kind of crossover between literary myth and schoolyard brawling that should not work, yet somehow feels completely natural for this series.

The latest trailer is useful because River City games are all about feel: hit impact, enemy waves, simple inputs, character upgrades and whether the chaos stays funny instead of becoming repetitive. If the brawling has enough bite, this could be a nice June eShop pickup.
