The Road of Dust and Sorrow brings 90s-style pixel horror to Switch 2

The Road of Dust and Sorrow has been announced for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, and it is aiming straight at players who miss the oppressive weirdness of 90s-inspired pixel horror. Silver Lining Interactive and Painted Black Games describe it as a story-driven horror game about a world gone wrong and a parent trying to protect their daughter.
That is a strong emotional hook because horror becomes more dangerous when the player is not only trying to survive but trying to protect someone else. The pixel art angle also helps.
Horror does not need photorealism to work. Sometimes suggestion, limited detail and uncomfortable atmosphere do far more than a high-definition monster face. If The Road of Dust and Sorrow can make its world feel broken, personal and tense, it could become one of those small horror titles that quietly sticks with people.
