Shade Protocol announced for Switch after smashing Kickstarter goal

By GFA Staff · June 5, 2026

Shade Protocol is coming to Nintendo Switch after a very strong Kickstarter start, and it already has the kind of hook Metroidvania fans like to hear: music, code and world manipulation. The project reportedly raised well over $100,000 in its first day, far above its $40,000 goal, which suggests the pitch is landing.

The game casts players as Zura, a failed experiment losing herself to the Shade Protocol, exploring a handcrafted world where new abilities let players reshape environments, uncover secrets and return to earlier areas with fresh tools. That is classic Metroidvania language, but the music-and-code angle gives it a cleaner identity.

Collaborations with CrossCode and Alabaster Dawn are already planned, while Mega Man and Shovel Knight composer Manami Matsumae is tied to a stretch goal. Not bad for day one momentum.
