Shrek 2 Remastered Leaks Through the Microsoft Store Before Xbox Can Announce It Properly
Some videogames are revealed with orchestras, celebrity presenters and carefully timed cinematic trailers. Shrek 2 Remastered has apparently chosen the more traditional modern approach: somebody put the store page online too early. A Microsoft Store listing has appeared for an unannounced remaster of the 2004 Shrek 2 action-adventure game, with Aspyr listed as developer. The page describes an updated journey through Far Far Away featuring improved graphics, new features and support for up to four-player cooperative play.
Players will once again control familiar characters from the DreamWorks film while smashing, throwing and kicking their way through fairy-tale enemies. The original Shrek 2 was released during the glorious age when virtually every major family film received a console adaptation, frequently developed quickly and with results ranging from surprisingly enjoyable to evidence that somebody had been working through the night. Shrek 2 developed a particular nostalgic following because its team-based gameplay was genuinely entertaining with friends.
The leaked listing strongly suggests an official reveal is imminent. Shrek also appears briefly in promotional material for Microsoft's ID@Xbox Showcase scheduled for October 20, making that event the obvious candidate. Until Microsoft, Aspyr or the rights holders formally announce the game, details such as platforms beyond Xbox, release date and pricing remain unconfirmed. Still, it is difficult to put the ogre back in the swamp after your own digital storefront has already advertised him.
