Xbox says exclusivity will be decided case by case

Xbox’s exclusivity strategy remains complicated, but after the showcase it is at least more direct. Xbox leadership says future exclusivity will be judged case by case, with platforms intended to be announced alongside release dates. That fits what the show actually did: Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution were confirmed as Xbox console exclusives, while several other Xbox-related games still include PS5 or Switch 2.

This is Microsoft trying to have both reach and identity. The business logic is obvious: more platforms mean more sales. The brand logic is also obvious: players need reasons to choose Xbox hardware.

The case-by-case approach may frustrate fans who want a simple rule, but it is probably the realistic answer. The real test is consistency. If Xbox communicates clearly, players can live with nuance. If not, the platform conversation becomes fog again.
