The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake announced for Switch 2

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially returning, and Nintendo knows exactly how loud that sentence is. The Nintendo 64 classic is being remade exclusively for Switch 2, with Nintendo positioning it as a new-generation rebirth rather than a simple port.

That is a dangerous and exciting move. Ocarina of Time is not just an old Zelda game.

It is one of those sacred cows that players remember with the emotional intensity normally reserved for first loves and childhood bicycles. A remake has to preserve the myth, the pacing, the music, the dungeons and the strange dreamlike quality of Hyrule while also making it feel modern enough for 2026 hardware. If Nintendo gets this right, Switch 2 has one of its defining exclusives. If it gets it wrong, the internet will become a very haunted forest.
