Zozo and the Lost Dreams announced for Nintendo Switch

Zozo and the Lost Dreams is heading to Nintendo Switch, and it looks like someone fed Saturday-morning cartoons into a Metroidvania machine. Red Dunes Games and Agate are building a 2D platformer about a 13-year-old kid who enters his own dream world with help from an eccentric scientist neighbor, then gets trapped in a technicolor mess of fantasies, glitches and strange dream creatures. That setup gives the game a nice hook because it can jump between wildly different environments without needing to justify every shift with serious lore.

Mountain cupcakes, computer bugs and dreamlings all sound like they belong in the same cartoon fever dream. For Switch players, the big question is movement feel. Metroidvanias live or die on control, backtracking rhythm and whether new abilities make the world open up in satisfying ways.

If Zozo gets that right, the colorful style could help it stand out later this year.
