Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Becomes Europe's Next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in Europe are getting an unusually substantial Game Trial: Ubisoft's excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is available in full from September 23 through September 30. The trial provides access to the complete game rather than a specially restricted demo, and save data can be carried into the purchased version afterwards. Nintendo has not announced an equivalent promotion for North America at the time of writing. The Lost Crown reimagines Prince of Persia as a fast, tightly designed Metroidvania starring Sargon, combining acrobatic platforming with parries, sword combat and time-manipulation abilities. It was widely regarded as one of Ubisoft's stronger recent releases, making the trial a considerably more interesting proposition than the usual opportunity to sample something for forty-three minutes before a dialogue box asks for money. For Nintendo, Game Trials remain a useful way to give older releases another burst of visibility. For Ubisoft, putting the entire game in front of subscribers may tempt players who skipped it at launch but have spent the intervening years hearing other people insist they really should play it. For once, the correct response to that friend is simply: fine, Nintendo is paying.
