Trover Saves the Universe Quietly Disappears From Digital Stores With No Explanation From Squanch Games

Trover Saves the Universe has vanished from digital storefronts across multiple platforms, and developer Squanch Games has so far offered no public explanation for the disappearance. The 2019 comedy action-adventure is no longer available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop and appears to have been retired from other PC and console stores as well. Store database records indicate a publisher-requested retirement on Steam, while the game has also largely disappeared from Squanch Games' own website. Existing owners should still retain access and be able to redownload previously purchased digital copies, so nobody needs to encase their SSD in concrete just yet. What new buyers do not currently have is a normal digital route to purchase the game. Delistings frequently happen because licensing agreements expire, publishing arrangements change or rights need to be renegotiated, but there is presently no confirmed reason in this case. Physical Switch and PlayStation copies were produced by Limited Run Games, which means the inevitable second-hand price archaeology has presumably already begun. The episode is another small but useful reminder that digital storefronts provide extraordinary convenience right up until somebody presses the remove button. Ownership may be permanent; availability most certainly is not.
