Arcade Archives Arkanoid launches tomorrow across PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4 and Switch

Arkanoid is the next classic to join the Arcade Archives line, and it lands tomorrow, May 7. Hamster will release Arcade Archives 2 Arkanoid for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2, while PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch receive the standard Arcade Archives version. The Arcade Archives 2 edition costs $9.99 / 1,100 yen, with the standard version priced at $7.99 / 837 yen and a lower-cost upgrade available for existing standard-version owners. The newer Arcade Archives 2 format adds features such as Time Attack Mode, VRR support, rewind, multiple save slots and online ranking. For retro players, Arkanoid remains one of the defining brick-breaker games, taking a simple ball-and-paddle idea and giving it arcade personality, power-ups and tension. It is also a good reminder that preservation is not only about RPGs and platformers. Arcade design history is full of compact, skill-driven games that still make sense today when ported properly.
