Ed Boon says NetherRealm is definitely pursuing another Mortal Kombat game

Another Mortal Kombat game is officially being pursued, even if NetherRealm is not ready to reveal it yet. Series co-creator Ed Boon said in a new interview that he cannot tease specifics without getting in trouble, but confirmed the studio is definitely pursuing another Mortal Kombat game and is doing more beyond games as well. That leaves the door open for multiple projects, including media tie-ins, while keeping the status of Injustice 3 unclear. For fighting-game fans, the news is not shocking, but it does provide reassurance after years of speculation around NetherRealm’s roadmap. Mortal Kombat remains one of Warner Bros.’ strongest gaming brands, and Mortal Kombat 1 showed the series can still command attention even when fans debate its rebooted direction. The next entry will need to answer big questions around roster, live-service structure, competitive support and platform choices. A Switch 2 version would make sense, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
