Nintendo has expanded the Game Boy Advance library available through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, adding three games on October 14. The new arrivals are Metal Slug Advance, Monster Rancher Advance and Kururin Paradise, all playable through the Game Boy Advance Nintendo Classics application on Switch and Switch 2. Metal Slug Advance brings SNK's distinctive run-and-gun action to the service, complete with elaborate sprite animation, military hardware and enough explosions to make a Hollywood action director feel professionally inadequate. Monster Rancher Advance offers a very different experience, concentrating on creating, training and battling unusual creatures. Its original Game Boy Advance mechanics used text-based inputs to generate monsters, adapting a franchise previously associated with creating creatures through music CDs on PlayStation. The most historically interesting addition is Kururin Paradise. Originally released in Japan in 2002, the puzzle game challenges players to guide a constantly rotating helicopter through increasingly difficult mazes. It also includes sixteen minigames. Its arrival represents the title's first official Western release after approximately twenty-four years. Nintendo's Game Boy Advance catalogue now contains 32 titles in Western territories, although several text-heavy Japanese releases remain unavailable internationally. Access requires the more expensive Expansion Pack subscription rather than the standard Nintendo Switch Online membership. The update demonstrates the continuing value of retro catalogues as subscription incentives. Older games can introduce younger audiences to design ideas that have largely disappeared from modern blockbusters, while giving longtime enthusiasts legitimate ways to revisit forgotten favourites. Kururin Paradise is particularly welcome because regional exclusivity has historically prevented many interesting Japanese games from reaching international players. Sometimes the most exciting new release is a twenty-four-year-old game that most people never had the opportunity to buy.
