Spacestation CEO explains why the team avoided Call of Duty League ownership

Spacestation Gaming has offered a candid look at why some esports organizations are cautious about expensive league commitments. CEO Shawn Pellerin explained that the organization considered the Call of Duty League but ultimately saw the license structure, operating costs and long-term liability as too risky. That is important because esports fans often see entry into major leagues as a simple sign of ambition, but the financial reality can be much more complicated. League slots, player salaries, travel, content production, staff and performance expectations can add up quickly, while revenue does not always scale in a predictable way. For players and fans, this kind of transparency helps explain why even successful organizations may choose to stay selective. The Call of Duty scene remains valuable, but participating at the top level is not automatically a safe business decision. Pellerin also pointed to talent circulation and competitive structure as part of the challenge. In a market where many esports teams are still trying to build sustainable models, avoiding a big league can sometimes be the smarter move.
