Sonic movie producer says Streets of Rage film was always his goal

The Streets of Rage movie is still early, but producer Dmitri Johnson has made it clear that the project matters to him. Johnson, known for producing the Sonic the Hedgehog films, told Game File that Streets of Rage was one of the projects that excited him about moving deeper into game adaptations.

The film is currently in the scripting phase and is expected to be animated according to a Sega financial filing. Streets of Rage has always had strong adaptation potential: neon city streets, street gangs, martial arts, electronic music, and larger-than-life brawling.

After Sonic’s box-office success, Sega adaptations have more credibility than they once did. Streets of Rage now has a chance to become the next test of whether Sega's older franchises can work as modern entertainment brands.
