Subnautica 2 sets May 14 Early Access date as Outbound moves to avoid the Leviathan

Subnautica 2 finally has an Early Access date, and it is already affecting the May release calendar around it. Unknown Worlds confirmed that Subnautica 2 will enter Early Access on May 14 across PC platforms, including Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass.
The sequel is still described as a solo-first survival experience, but this time players can also explore with up to three friends in online co-op. That is a major shift for a series known for lonely underwater dread, resource management and discovery. The announcement was big enough that Outbound, a cozy camper-van base-building game, moved its PC release earlier to May 11 to avoid launching directly against Subnautica 2.
For players, the key question is whether co-op changes the emotional tone. Subnautica worked because the ocean felt beautiful, hostile and isolating. A shared expedition could make the sequel more social and accessible, but it must preserve the danger and awe that made the original memorable. Either way, May 14 is now one of the month’s biggest PC and Game Pass dates.
