Tomodachi Life holds off Smash Bros. again on the Nintendo Switch eShop chart

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is still sitting at the top of the Nintendo Switch eShop chart. Nintendo Everything’s May 9 chart places it ahead of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Pokémon FireRed. That is a strong run for Nintendo’s social life-sim revival, especially with so many evergreen titles crowding the top of the chart. The download-only list tells a slightly different story. Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen remain dominant, but Wax Heads has debuted inside the top ten, which is a good sign for a smaller narrative adventure about record-store culture. For players, the chart shows the Switch audience remains very Nintendo-heavy, nostalgia-heavy and comfort-game-friendly. For developers, the lesson is familiar: eShop visibility is difficult, but the right release can still break into the chart if it catches attention at the right time. Tomodachi Life’s continued success also reinforces that Nintendo’s weird social games can compete with its biggest action and racing brands.
