Xbox app hints at possible Game Pass expansion into China
The Xbox PC app may be hinting at one of Microsoft’s more interesting regional moves. According to The Verge, strings and references inside the app point to a project codenamed Saluki, with signs of a China-focused Game Pass expansion, Rewards support and subscription-related features. Game Pass is not currently available in mainland China, so even a curated or limited PC-focused rollout would be significant. The same reporting also points to a Disc2Digital-style project under the codename Positron, though details remain unclear. This is not an official announcement, so it belongs firmly in rumor and app-discovery territory. Still, the implications are big. China is one of the world’s largest gaming markets, but console and subscription strategies there are complicated by regulation, content approval and platform structure. If Microsoft is preparing a localized approach, it would fit its broader push to make Xbox more of a platform ecosystem than a console box. For players, the story is less about immediate access and more about where Game Pass might go next.
