Subnautica 2 gameplay trailer teases a mysterious tree ahead of Early Access

Subnautica 2 is almost ready to open the hatch, and Unknown Worlds has released a new gameplay trailer that reminds players why this series works so well: beauty, panic and the terrible certainty that curiosity will get you killed. The new footage shows the player arriving violently on an alien ocean world before settling into the familiar Subnautica loop of gathering materials, crafting better tools, harvesting samples and analyzing discoveries in a lab. The most intriguing tease is the mysterious tree first seen in the cinematic trailer. The trailer’s voice warns players not to go there, which in game language means everyone will immediately try to go there. The sequel’s other major change is co-op. Subnautica 2 supports up to four players, including underwater vehicle interactions with extra seats and grab points. That could make exploration more social and chaotic, but the full game remains playable solo. The big question is whether the sequel can keep the original’s lonely dread while letting friends tag along. Early Access begins May 14 on PC and Xbox Series X/S, with day-one Game Pass support.
