Arcade Archives Arkanoid launches today on modern platforms

Arkanoid is back on modern platforms today through Hamster’s Arcade Archives line. Arcade Archives 2 Arkanoid is launching for PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2, while PS4 and Switch receive the standard Arcade Archives version. The Arcade Archives 2 edition costs $9.99 / 1,100 yen, while the standard version costs $7.99 / 837 yen, with an upgrade path available for existing owners. Arkanoid was originally released by Taito in 1986 and remains one of the defining brick-breaker arcade games, with the player controlling the spacecraft Vaus and bouncing an energy ball through walls, stages and power-ups. The new Arcade Archives 2 release adds modern conveniences such as Time Attack Mode, VRR support, rewind, multiple save slots and online ranking support. For retro fans, this is a clean preservation release. Arkanoid is simple, but that simplicity is exactly why it still works: one paddle, one ball, and the constant pressure of not missing the next bounce.
