Ecco the Dolphin returned from the deep like a beautifully weird sea prophet

Ecco the Dolphin: Complete was announced today, and it sounds much bigger than a quick nostalgia snack. The package includes all versions of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, plus a brand-new Ecco game meant to carry the series into the modern era.

The announcement also says original members of the Ecco team are involved, including creator Ed Annunziata and veterans from the original art, music, and programming sides. On top of that, the collection is promising speedrunning support, achievements, leaderboards, meta quests, and custom courses that remix levels from across the franchise.

What it means for gamers: retro fans just got handed a bucket of premium-grade dolphin nostalgia, but this looks more ambitious than a lazy remember-the-90s rerelease. If the comeback keeps the franchise weird instead of sanding it into safe remaster paste, Ecco could feel relevant again for all the right reasons.
