Marvel Tokon story mode reportedly runs around 10 hours but mostly uses motion comics

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will have a story mode, but players should not expect a traditional cinematic fighting-game campaign. In an interview covered by Insider Gaming, producer Takeshi Yamanaka said the game’s Episode Mode uses a motion-comic style, with manga panels drawn by an artist and animated to move the story forward. The total story content is said to approach 10 hours across five teams, but the format is mostly animated comic sequences with battles incorporated through the episodes. That is a divisive choice. On one hand, Marvel is a comics brand, so a moving-comic presentation makes thematic sense and may appeal to casual fans who want story context without long cutscenes. On the other hand, some fighting-game players may see it as less interactive than the story modes found in Mortal Kombat or Tekken. The key will be pacing. If the motion comics are stylish and the battles feel meaningful, it could work. If not, players may treat the mode as a visual novel wrapper around the real fighting game.
