Nintendo says Switch 2 price hike still does not cover all rising costs

Nintendo’s Switch 2 price hike story is still developing. President Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly told investors that the recently announced price increases do not fully account for all cost increases, meaning Nintendo could have raised prices even further but chose not to risk damaging hardware momentum too badly. From September 1, Switch 2 will rise to $499.99 in the US, €499.99 in Europe and $679.99 in Canada, while Japan will see hardware increases from May 25. Furukawa pointed to market conditions such as memory costs, the weak yen and rising crude oil prices, while apologizing to customers for the burden. The strategic answer is software. Nintendo says it will prepare a robust Switch 2 lineup to make ownership feel more valuable and overcome the higher purchase barrier. For players, that means the coming months matter a lot. Yoshi, Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, Fire Emblem and major third-party titles now have to do more than entertain. They have to justify the platform’s new price reality.
